12 Months - September 2005

September 27 - October 3, 2005
(1 year, 4 weeks)

Daddy has predicted that I will be walking by October 10.  I got a little closer to his goal this week when I started to slowly walk along the furniture.  Mommy thinks it might take a little longer - hmmm... sounds like an opportunity for a little wager.

I started saying Mommy, well actually mama.  Mommy is thrilled especially since I have been saying Daddy for a while now.

I really like to point to different body parts on myself and also the same parts on Mommy and Daddy.  Yesterday Mommy was being silly while I was pointing to Mommy's nose.  She leaned forward and touched her nose to my nose - I found it to be the most hilarious thing in the world and laughed hysterically.

I demonstrated by first baby sign for fan this week.  I take my hard and move it around in a circle like the fan.  I've used  the sign at home when I've seen the ceiling fans as well as when I saw a non-working upright fan at swim class.

"Blueberry pancakes - mmmmm!"

September 20 - September 26, 2005
(1 year, 3 weeks)

I know some of my body parts - I can point to my head, hair, belly, and toes when asked.  Mommy is so proud of me.  She thinks the best part is that we never really practiced this.  We've just talked about the different parts through conversation and songs and I just picked up that I knew where they are located.

I received a fun tunnel and tent set from Sean for my birthday.  Mommy set up the tunnel this week and I loved to crawl through it.  Wilson likes to run from end to end to see where I am as I crawl through.  It is fun for both of us.

I am really fascinated with water fountains.  Yesterday was the best day - I got to watch a fun water fountain while drinking a vanilla shake from Potbellys!

"Ready, set, go!"

September 13 - September 19, 2005
(1 year, 2 weeks)

I love eating.  I enjoy eating almost everything put in front of me but the trick for Mommy and Daddy is to prioritize which foods to put in front of me first.  You see I have this complicated food hierarchy which allows me to eat certain foods until another food that I prefer more is introduced.  For example for me to eat avocado, cheese, and eggs, you would have to give me the eggs first, the avocado second, and the cheese last.  If the avocado or cheese is introduced first - forget the eggs.

I got my first owie this past week.  I was crawling really fast on the tile floor and the next thing I knew I was kissing the tile - ouch!  My top lip got puffy and purple and my tooth bled a little but I survived (Mommy survived too).

I am getting really good at following commands such as "kiss (insert name)", "give the (insert toy or food) to Wilson", "put (insert object) in here (bucket, toy bin, etc.", and  "wave to (insert name).  I am also starting to stand with some assistance when asked to stand.

On occasion I have decided that I am not interested in sitting in my car seat and have thrown a few tantrums.  I think Mommy especially liked the one where I stiffened up like a board  and then arched my back making it nearly impossible to place my bottom into the seat.

Daydreams

September 6 - September 12, 2005
(1 year, 1 week)

What a week!  I had three birthday celebrations and each one involved cake!

At my 12 month wellness visit I found out that I am off the chart when it comes to weight (16 lbs. 8 oz.) and I have been put on a high fat diet.  So far I have enjoyed the following new delicacies - butter, milk shakes, eggs with cheese, corned beef (my new favorite food), meatloaf, Daddy's famous chicken, and lots of whole milk - yum!  I get to go back in six weeks for a weigh-in.

My latest words are a very clear "Hi" and "Yum."  My two top teeth have emerged and I have been waking up in the middle of the night.  Mommy and Daddy weren't too excited about getting up at 1:30 a.m. the other day - that was until I said "hi" using my sweet little voice.  Somehow it made everything ok.

I love to sit in my new chair.  Great Grandma Gigi got it for me for my birthday.  Try as I might, I cannot climb into it by myself but it is only a matter of time before I do.

Other big girl news...I got to go down the slide at swimming - assisted of course - twice!
